Hello, my name is Phil and along with help from family members, we run this toy store.
My interest in wooden toys began not long after the birth of my first grandchild. Looking for more natural toys, it was obvious that a number of mass-produced plastic toys, most of which were manufactured oversees, appeared to dominate the toy market. This experience provided a kernel of an idea to make my own wooden toys. However, a lack of time held back further progress.
In 2016, I moved from a full-time teaching role to a part-time role. From this time onward, I started experimenting with constructing wooden toys and gradually collecting specialised tools to enhance my skills. It was also a time that I was able to undertake a significant amount of research into the materials and construction methods required to produce quality, safe, long lasting toys.
In 2019, I retired from my secondary school teaching career and I have been working on developing the toy making business since.
I am fortunate to live in the foothills of the Snowy Mountains, ten minutes from the township of Jindabyne. It is here that I have set up my workshop. With no more lessons to prepare, examinations to mark, programs to develop, and reports to write, I now have ample time to design and build the toys which you can view in the collections on this site.
